about

You used to see them all the time. They were like butterflies that could illuminate their bodies, so they were also like fireflies. They had faces as well, like certain moths look like owls. Their faces usually held melancholy expressions, but not always. Some of them were funny and playful. They were attracted to humans. Used to cluster around your head. Everyone swatted at them if they had to be somewhere other than where they were, like a job, or the post office. Lacking exoskeletons, they were quite soft-bodied, and being harmless, they had no natural defenses. Often walking to school one child would kill several dozen of them. But they were well-loved by most people. It used to be our entertainment to go into the woods on moonless nights and dance with the mole people in the eerie light the Excelsior Breeze Catchers produced. All the colors in the leaves of summer and the spidery twigs of winter. The nights of the new moon dances they would make music, we and the mole people would dance with such vigor that we would create a grunting rhythm. Though they were blind, they were adept at missing the trees when dancing, though they were not particularly careful, either, and danced with wild abandon. All are gone now, due to our own callousness, except for a very few who reside with me, in my little sanctuary. It is a secret place, where the last Excelsior Breeze Catchers live, where I live. No one is allowed to visit, due to the necessity of maintaining these precious creatures that make so much of the beauty of life on Earth. But you may hear the music of this album and be here in your soul. I will greet you here
